The Government of Gujarat has announced a merger involving Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC), Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL), and Gujarat Gas Limited. This strategic move aims to consolidate these entities into a single organization with a comprehensive presence across most segments of the gas industry, excluding the upstream sector i.e. liquefaction, LNG shipping. Additionally, the gas transmission business would be separately listed under GSPL Transmission Limited (GTL) by August 2025. The entire process is expected to be completed by August 2025.#LNG #GSPC #GujaratGas #GSPL #Merger #Demerger #Indiangasindustry

#onthisday in #oil and #gas history - June 18, 1889:Standard Oil Company of New Jersey incorporated a new subsidiary, Standard Oil Company of Indiana, and began processing oil at a new refinery in Whiting, Indiana, southeast of Chicago. The refinery, which became the largest in the United States by the mid-1890s, in 1910 added pipelines connecting it to Kansas and Oklahoma oilfields. When the Supreme Court in 1911 mandated the break up of John D. Rockefeller’s companies, Standard Oil of Indiana emerged as an independent company, opening Amoco branded service stations in the late 1950s. Amoco merged with British Petroleum (BP) in 1998 — the largest foreign takeover of U.S. company up to that time. Since then, several mergers and acquisitions have taken place and became part of well-know companies such as ExxonMobil Corporation, BP PLC, and Chevron Corporation.

Permian-focused producers engage in mergers to enhance scale, returns and cost savingsExxonMobil, Occidental Petroleum and Diamondback Energy are among the oil companies that have engaged in major deals involving Permian-focused producers over the past year. ExxonMobil's acquisition of Pioneer Natural Resources for over $60 billion and Occidental's purchase of CrownRock for $12 billion are expected to increase their returns by recovering more resources more effectively than they could have done alone. These deals also aim to lower costs and boost free cash flow. Meanwhile, Diamondback Energy's acquisition of Endeavor will significantly enhance its scale in the Permian Basin, reducing costs, improving returns and increasing its free cash flow.https://lnkd.in/g9WhAWxz...

Exxon Mobil / Pioneer and Chevron / Hess Mergers in the Context of Global Liquid Fuels ProductionOn October 11, 2023, Exxon Mobil announced its intent to acquire Pioneer Natural Resources, a dominant crude oil producer in the Permian Basin of West Texas. On October 23, 2023, Chevron announced its agreement to acquire Hess Corporation, once a major refiner and distributor of petroleum products that more recently has transformed itself into a crude oil exploration and production company. Each of these acquisitions are valued at over $50 billion. On November 1, 2023, twenty-three U.S. Democratic Senators sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission requesting an immediate investigation into potential anti-competitive practices and anticipated economic harm to consumers from these two mergers. The Senators’ letter and press release can be found here:https://lnkd.in/d47vniJQIn tandem, there have been opinions published that both challenge and support the Senators' contentions. Crude oil prices are set in global markets in response to supply/demand dynamics as well as adverse weather and geopolitical events, among other things. The combined 2022 liquids production output of the four merged companies is 4.2 million barrels per day, or 4.2% of total liquid fuels supply.By comparison, OPEC and Russia, control 47% of total global liquid fuels production, and in recent years explicitly convene by way of OPEC+ in order to manage and limit availability of fuel, thereby elevating prices. For more information on this chart, please contactMax Pyziur(maxp@eprinc.org).
